1.Q. How to install the XMedia Email Backup server?
A. The installation is simple. Just run ebs_setup.exe to install the server part of XMedia EMail Backup system. The installation program will configure the server to auto startup every time when the windows system startups. The administrator's account has also been created in the installation with default password "nopass". We strongly recommmend you to change it at its first running. The default working directory is named "WorkDir" which locates in the folder where you installed XMedia Email Backup server. The default serving port is 7521. You can change these in the server configuration.
2.Q. How does XMedia Email Backup system protect your email data?
XEB ( XMedia Email Backup system ) uses 4 methods to protect your email data.
A. 1. The email data is compressed before transferred. And will request the code before decompressed.
2. The email data is encrypted in transferring to/from the server.
3. The email data is encrypted and binded to 128bit codes when storing to server's catalog.
4. The email data stored in the server can be dumped to other removeable storage device. 128bit encryption algorithm is also provided to protect data.
XEB itself's security depends on the the windows system's security. Administrator and other users must keep their password in safe to protect their data ( this is the most important).
3.Q. What's the password when first start up?
A. The default password is "nopass". We strongly recommmend you to change it at its first running.
4.Q. How to change the working directory?
A. Working directory is the place where to store the email data. To change the working directory, you have to stop the server first. You can change it at the server configuration. New working directory will take effect right after you press "OK". Server program will automatically transfer all users' data from the old working directory to the new place exclusively. Be patient if there are lots of users and files.
5.Q. How to change the server's port?
A. To change the server's port, you have to stop the server first. You can change it at the server configuration. Just enter the new port. This change will take effect right after you press "OK".
6.Q. How to recover server's data from storage device?
A. Click menu "Utilities", the click "Import data to server". In the coming window, click "Browse" button to choose archive file dumped from server before. Then the users included in the archive will be list in the "User list" area. Choose a user name from the list, the binding backup sets will be list in the "Backup sets" area. Check the user and backup sets you want to recover , then press Import.
If there is an account which has the same user name and the same internal 128-bit user id as one of the importing user list , the importing process will go smoothly. If there is an account which has the same name but different 128-bit user id, a new user will be created.
7.Q. How to get registered?

After purchase, you will receive an email immediately containing your author code and key. It looks like author code : XXXXXXXX key: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. The code is 8 chars long and the key is 100 chars long. Click menu "Help", then click "Register product". In the registering window, enter your name to "Registered to" box. And then enter the author code to "Author code" box and key to the "Key" box. Press "Register" to complete. Registration will take effect right now.
8.Q. What's the system requirements for server edition?

FAQ TO PERSONAL EDITION
1. Q. Can I backup emails in IncrediMail and restore to Outlook Express?
A. No. The backup can be restored only to the same type of Email Client from which it was created. For example, you can't restore to Outlook Express a backup file which was created from Eudora or Incredimail. 2.Q. Can I backup email data from Outlook Express on Windows Me and restore it on an Windows XP machine?
A. Yes. The backups can be restored to any version of windows.
3.Q. Can I backup my email data from a network drive?
A. No, you can't backup e-mail files from network yet. You must install and run XMedia Email Backup on the computer you where you have the Email Client installed. We plan to release soon a Professional version which will offer the ability to backup and restore to and from network.
4.Q. Where is the backup file that I have just created?
A. You can specify the filename and path of the backup file just after you select what identities to backup. By default, the backup path is C:\ and the filename will be generated from the name of Email Client and date ( eg. OEBackup 26-1-2003.ebk ).
5.Q. When trying to save mail to CD I get an error message : "Could not create new cabinet file [0x0006]". How can I create the backup to CD?
A. You can't save the backup copy directly to CD. You first have to create the backup file to a local hard drive, and then use your favorite CD burner application to burn it on a CD.
6.Q. Does XMedia Email Backup interfere with Norton System Works or Norton Antivirus?
A. No, XMedia Email Backup should not interfere with any application.
7.Q. I get this error message: "this backup is not compatible with selected email client". Why?
A. This error message should occur when you are trying to restore a backup to a email client different from the one from which the backup was created. Ex. You create a backup of IncrediMail and try to restore to Outlook Express. If you are trying to restore to the same Email Client from which the backup was created, please contact us immediately if you get this error message.
8.Q. XMedia Email Backup doesn't accept my license key, why?
A. You have to enter both your License Name and the License Key exactly as they were sent to you. Please copy and paste the name and key from there, because otherwise if you mistype any character the program will not accept it.
9.Q. Can this program backup email data in MSN 8 ?
A. No, XMedia Email Backup can't backup the data in MSN 7 or MSN 8 because the email data is stored on an Internet Server, and not on your machine |
